The Presidents Report

FROM APRIL 2002 TO APRIL 2003

This is the annual report from the President of Canadian Parents for French Eastern Passage Cow Bay Chapter.

The last year was very busy. We started the year with setting up our second Vessey’s bulb fund raiser. We went with the spring bulb fundraiser and were able to run the fundraiser in Tallahassee Community School, Sea Side Elementary, and the Shearwater Pre-school. It was a great success and raised over $2000. With this money we were able to purchase many new books for both schools and the pre-school. At the end of June we presented our first annual “Most Deserving French Immersion Student Award” in the Eastern Passage Education Centre. Along with a permanent plaque in the school a certificate was presented as well as a complete French English dictionary.

During the summer we participated in the Eastern Passage Carnival week. It was a great time and we had lots of fun. We had the opportunity to meet many members of the community. We also used the carnival to run a second fundraiser. We raised over $600 selling cotton candy over the span of 3 days.

During the fall months we were able to assist Tallahassee Community School with some resources for the classroom. We purchased $1000 worth of class room French readers and books. These books will help all the students in the early French immersion program.

We approached the winter months with setting up a campaign to inform parents about the French Immersion Program. We placed posters in the area pre-schools, attended the late French immersion information evening at the Eastern Passage Education Centre, and assisted with the early French immersion evening at Tallahassee Community School. At this time we are please to announce that there are over 64 students registered for the early French immersion program. These numbers support the creation of a third primary class at Tallahassee. We also purchased a class room set of French English dictionaries for the late French immersion program at the Eastern Passage Education Centre.

We hope that the next year will be just as successful as this year. We look forward to helping the French programs again this year.
